Book Parade

Claire and Isaiah don’t attend Ukarumpa International School but sometimes they get invited to participate in the school’s special events.  Book Parade is one of them.  During the two weeks prior, students participate in reading competitions and collect books to give to local schools.  As a grand finale, everyone dresses up as a favorite book character and parades around the school.  Isaiah chose to be Robin Hood from “The Legend of Robin Hood” that we read earlier this year.  Claire found her lacy dress in the school’s prop room.  It reminded her of Samantha in “Happy Birthday, Samantha”—one of the American Girl stories that she loves.

Crafting Weekend

My family recently gave me a very special gift—a weekend to spend crafting with friends.  Fourteen other ladies and I retreated to the Wycliffe Associates Volunteer Center with all our gear.  The Volunteer Center is only a short walk from our home, and our “workroom” might have resembled a sweatshop, but we thoroughly enjoyed sewing, talking, eating meals we didn’t cook ourselves, creating and laughing till our sides hurt.

A majority of the women were working on quilts, but others were scrapbooking, sewing, editing videos and cross-stitching.  I made some progress on my 15-year cross-stitch project.  I started that peacock when we first arrived in PNG in 1999.  Think I’ll finish it before we leave?  …maybe if we have another crafting weekend soon.  <wink>
